Age 1 Visits

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children visit a dentist by the first birthday, and we wholeheartedly agree with their recommendation. We actually prefer to see you and your child around 6 months, as this allows us the time needed to reduce any risk factors we may find in our primary prevention program. This appointment also allows us to provide you, the parents, with the information you need to care for your child's smile throughout their early years and beyond. Please call us to learn more or to schedule a first dentist appointment for a baby in Gilbert or the surrounding Arizona communities.

Initial Exam: For children 3 years and older, our New Patient visit includes an orientation to the office, soft tissue examination, scaling and polishing, necessary x-rays, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instruction, dental growth and development evaluation, dietary and nutritional counseling, and patient/parent education. This appointment provides us an opportunity to provide additional information in an age appropriate manner to the parent on how you and your child can best care for their teeth and gums.

Continuing Care Appointments

Bi-annual dental appointments are recommended for all dentist patients to ensure excellent oral health. Our local pediatric dental team views each continuing care appointment as an opportunity to provide you and your child with the tools your family needs to remain cavity free.

Sedation Dentistry for Kids

To ensure we're able to provide the best possible dental care, we offer a number of options to help your children enjoy the process. Each of these common sedation dental practices are very safe for kids. We would be happy to further discuss options for sedation dentistry for children in Gilbert, AZ with you, as well as other behavior management tactics that can enhance your child's dentist appointment experience.

 - Nitrous Oxide/Laughing Gas Dentistry: Nitrous Oxide/Laughing Gas Dentistry: This gas is breathed in by your child to help relax them and to make treatment easier and more comfortable. Nitrous oxide not only helps by relaxing your child for their dental appointment, but it also has the added benefit of reducing saliva production. This will help us to ensure the work we do is performed under the most optimal conditions. Once your child's dental treatment is finished, the gas is turned off and it takes approximately 5 minutes for the child to "breathe off" all of the nitrous oxide. This treatment has no long term effect and once you leave our office your child can go about their day as normal.

- Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry: Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry: This is also known as a "kiddie cocktail" or "twilight sleep sedation." This is a liquid medicine, or combination of medicines, dispensed by the doctor to aid your child in coping with dental treatment. This is the lightest form of sedation and is very safe. A child is awake but unaware of the dental procedure. This type of kids sedation dentistry is recommended for children who are mildly to moderately anxious about dental treatment, are too young to understand having dental treatment completed, or have behaved in a manner that does not allow the dentist to complete necessary treatment with the use of nitrous oxide alone. All post care instructions will be provided for the best experience possible. To learn more about this form of sedation dentistry for kids, please contact our friendly team.

- IV Sedation/General Anesthesia: This is a safe procedure administered by a dentist anesthesiologist to children ages 12 months and up. A child is completely asleep and unaware throughout the dental procedure. All vitals are monitored throughout the entire treatment. This is generally recommended for a child who has sensitivity to oral medication or requires extensive dental work. An added benefit is that numbing is not required. Pre procedure and post procedure instructions will be given if this method is chosen by you and Dr. Bashara.
